As of July 4, 2026 — just days after free agency opened — the Nuggets' offseason activity has been extremely limited: re-signing backup guard Tyus Jones and adding Marvin Bagley III on a minimum deal. Meanwhile, the rest of the NBA saw blockbuster moves: Giannis traded to Miami, Kawhi Leonard to Toronto, Jaylen Brown to Philly, LaMelo Ball to Minnesota, Ja Morant to Portland, and LeBron James departing the Lakers. Multiple media outlets explicitly noted Denver's summer as 'concerningly tame' relative to the rest of the league, and the Nuggets also lost Tim Hardaway Jr. to the Heat in free agency with no comparable addition.

SGA won the 2025-26 NBA MVP award, becoming a back-to-back winner just one season after his first MVP — directly contradicting the prediction that it was a one-time achievement. He won in a landslide with 83 of 100 first-place votes, leading the Thunder to a 64-18 record. He is now the 14th player in NBA history to win consecutive MVP awards, joining elite company like Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Stephen Curry, and Steve Nash.
